Orthodontics encompasses more than just braces. Orthodontists often employ several different appliances over the duration of treatment, including special orthodontic appliances and retainers.

With great advances in technology, today’s orthodontic appliances can include more than just metal. Plastics and ceramic materials are commonplace in orthodontic treatment. And even with traditional braces, brackets are smaller and smoother, and wires are thinner and more forgiving, allowing for a much more comfortable experience than was often the case in the past.

Removable aligner therapy such as Invisalign® has also become commonplace as an orthodontic treatment modality, which is a highly esthetic and also comfortable alternative to traditional braces.

There is not a set treatment time period for orthodontics as each case is different. The amount of time required for care is dependent on several factors, including the severity of the case, patient age, the chosen treatment modality, and patient biological response to treatment.  Quite possibly the main element in keeping the timeline short and achieving treatment success is you, the patient! Patient compliance factors such as maintaining regular appointments and good oral hygiene are essential to treatment progress. The more you stay on track and work with us during your treatment, the better (and quicker!) your experience will be.
